Son of soil Prof Sambyal to be appointed OSD in Central University | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 16: The former Registrar of Jammu University Prof G S Sambyal is tipped to be as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the prestigious Central University of Jammu, which would soon be established in Samba district. According to reliable sources, Vice Chancellor Prof Amitabh Mattoo had recommended the name of Prof Sambyal for the post of OSD to Ministry of Human Resource Development, to which approval has been granted. Prof Sambyal would receive the letter of appointment within a couple of days. Prof Mattoo had recommended Sambyal’s name keeping in view the wide academic and administrative experience. Prof Sambyal being son of the soil is well acquainted with all the local conditions. It is pertinent to mention here that Prof Sambyal is the first person who is to be appointed in this University after Vice Chancellor Prof Mattoo. Prof Sambyal, who is an authority in Computer Science, has served Jammu University in the capacity of Registrar for four long years. He also held several important academic and administrative positions in the University including Controller Examination and HoD Computer Sciences. Also, he was the part of maiden 20-member team of experts which was given operational training of indigenous computer (TDC-316 Machine) in 1970s. Jammu University was among the first five institutions including ISRO to get TDC 316 Machine. Importantly, he played a vital role in starting the first academic session at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU). He was the Academic Coordinator of the University for the initial of the University. He laid the academic foundation of the University. He is expected to do the similar thing here also. When contacted, Prof Sambyal confirmed that he had been offered this assignment which he has accepted. He assured that students of Jammu will get opportunity in various courses during the current academic session in the Central University of Jammu, as the Vice Chancellor has desired to introduce modern courses.
