Publicise criterion for declaring villages backward’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 17- Assurance Committee (AC) of Legislative Assembly has called for publishing criterion and parameters on the basis of which villages are declared backward. The wide publicity of the same will help to bring genuine population under the ambit of backward categories in a transparent manner. The Committee which met here today under the chairmanship of MLA, M.Y. Taragami stressed on adhering to norms strictly while giving backward status to villages and hamlets, observing that section-11 of J&K State Commission for Backward Classes Act, 1997 is not followed in letter and spirit at times. The Committee called for pursuing the issue of tribal sub plan funds with Centre for early release to extend succor to tribal and nomadic population, which it said benefits through such allocations. Legislators, Javid Mustafa Mir, Charanjit Singh, Irfan Ahmed Shah and Durga Dass gave their valuable suggestions for the improvement in functioning of Social Welfare department. Among others, Commissioner/ Secretary, Social Welfare, Jeet Lal Gupta, Director Social Welfare Jammu, Director Social Welfare Kashmir, Secretary Backward Classes and other senior concerned officers of Social Welfare and Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
