| Kashmir in grip of cold wave, Dal lake freezes partially | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR Jan 17: Intense cold wave gripped Kashmir division leaving many water bodies and water supply pipes frozen causing hardships to the residents of the Valley.
The sub-zero temperature has resulted in partial freezing of many water bodies, including the Dal Lake in the city, officials said.
Drinking water supply in many areas remained suspended due to freezing of the pipes. Residents of old Barzulla, Rambagh, Natipora, Chanapora, Batamaloo and Aloochibagh claimed that they are without water supply for the past two days.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar city, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, fell by 0.4 notch to settle at minus 4.1 degrees Celsius, a MeT department official said.
Gulmarg skiing resort in north Kashmir was the coldest place in the Valley recording the night temperature of minus 13 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam resort in south Kashmir recorded minus 9.6 degrees Celsius.
Kokernag and Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir valley, were also reeling under freezing temperatures recording a minimum of minus 8.4 deg C and minus 7.5 deg C respectively.
Kargil town in Ladakh region recorded a low of minus 16.8 degrees celsius, while nearby Leh town witnessed a minimum of minus 14.4 degrees celsius.
