Peaceful protesters were ruffed by heavy police contingent, rue JPPF | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 18: Jammu Province People’s Forum along with many supporting organizations have strongly condemned the police action in not allowing the torch light protest demonstration held jointly by them last evening against the appointment of Prof. Mattoo as vice Chancellor Central University Jammu. In a joint statement issued here today all these Jammu based parties, who are agitating against Prof. Mattoo’s appointment as VC CU Jammu have stated that several hundred demonstrators who had gathered for holding torch light rally were obstructed and ruffed up by a heavy contingent of police, which did not allow them to proceed further from Moti Bazar. The program to hold torch light protest demonstration on the late evening of 17th January was announced a week advance by the JPPF. But the police foiled their attempt to take out the procession on the declared route. Thakur Pavitter Singh, president JPPF and leaders of other organizations have said that they will chalk out their next program of action in a meeting to be held soon, in which they will also consider what action they should take against the police and the administration for denying their fundamental right to hold peaceful protest.
