Cop held for selling police weapons to HM commander | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 18: A police headconstable, who was accused of selling police weapons and ammunition to HM divisional commander Ghulam Nabi alias Javed Qureshi, was today arrested by police from his hideout here. Qureshi, apprehended by police in Dehradun on December 10 last year, had told his interrogators that headconstable Davinder Kumar alias DK, son of Swami Raj of Larote, Bhaderwah, supplied him police AKs, pistols and ammunition, police sources said. Evading arrest since Qureshi's apprehension, DK, who had been dismissed from service, was today taken into custody by police from his hideout, the sources added. He was wanted in a total of nine criminal cased registered against him at different police stations in Doda and Bhaderwah areas. For supplying arms and ammunition, and providing logistic support to the HM divisional commander to carry out subversive activities, a case under sections 409 and 411 of RPC, 7/27 of Indian Arms Act and 3 of EAO was registered against him at Doda police station. A large quantity of arms and ammunition belonging to police was recovered by cops from Qureshi's hideouts. All these items were allegedly supplied by DK to Qureshi during his posting as incharge of Sarak Marmat picket from 2001 to 2003 and then in 2010. Sources said he had allegedly supplied AKs, SLRs, Insas rifles, pika guns and their ammunition, which he used to get from DPL, Doda, by showing fake encounters with militants in Marmat area. He used to get Rs 20 per AK round and Rs 5 per round of SLR and Insas. The rate of gun was Rs 50,000 and that of pistol, Rs 25,000, the sources added. Sources said for his criminal activities and long absence from duty, he was dismissed from service before his involvement in militancy became known. The investigation also revealed that he had taken job in police on the basis of a fake middle pass certificate from a school he had never attended. He had also opened fire on a police party headed by Bhalla police post incharge, who had made an attempt to arrest him at his residence at Larote. His sustained interrogation was in progress. |
