| Paharis demand ST Status | | | POONCH | NOV 8 The Paharis speaking people are all geared to demand ST status to avail themselves of an opportunity to move forward in the race in which they feel left behind because if the disadvantages of nor having the same facilities as others touched by modernity in the state enjoy. This was the sentiment one could gange from the speaker at a meeting of Oahari employees Welfare forum, Pooch held here today under the chairmanship of Sudershan Sharma, senior vice president (District Poonch) Pahari Employees Welfare Forum and attended by executives of all tehsil bodies. While maintaining that the Paharis are symbol of this secularism, the speakers were unanimous in criticizing the state Government for neglecting the Paharis for decades. Vijay Puri, general secretary (PEWF-Poonch) expressed doubt the sincerity of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in redressing the grievances of Pahari community. Later district vice president implored the cadres to get together and be ready for an intensified struggle to get the long pending demand of Pahari people of Poonch, Rajouri, Uri Tangdahr, Karnal and other Pahari pockets conceded. Other who spoke on this occasion included, Zaki Haider, Manjit Kumar, Riaz Mir, Ghani Sham Sharma, Rajinder Singh, Mohd Akram, Surinder Singh, Abdul Rehman, M. Akram Tantray, Thakur Iqbal Singh, Rahul Kapoor, Ashok Kumar, Hamid Khan, Lekh Raj and Rohit Puri.
