| Accident outside Shakuntla Theater | | College bus overturns; 21 injured, 1 critical | | ET Report
JAMMU, Jan 18: At least 21 college students were injured, five of them seriously, when their bus overturned near Shakuntla theatre in the heart of Jammu city today. Police sources said that a bus carrying students of Mahant Bachitter Singh Engineering College overturned when the driver came to know about the break failure and hit the bus against wall of a Shakuntla cinema theatre on the ever-busy BC road area of Jammu city. Bus upturned resulting in injuries to 21 students. Police and locals immediately rushed to the spot and shifted injured including the driver to the hospital. Police officials confirmed that break failure was the reason behind the accident. They added that since the area is crowded, driver seemingly hit the bus with wall of Cinema Theater to avoid major tragedy. "Driver hit the bus with the wall following which it overturned," officials said.
They confirmed that bus bearing registration number JK02P/4474 was on way to college in Digiana. Meanwhile, doctors in Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu said that 21 students were injured in the accident, of which one is critical. The one who is critical has been identified as Ableen Kaur daughter of Onkar Singh, a resident of exchange road area of Jammu city. Sources said that Ableen has been referred to Chandigarh base hospital. Other injured students have been identified as Palvee Gupta daughter of Ashok Gupta, Himanshu Gupta son of Bal Krishan, Isha daughter of Chander Mahajan, Sanmati daughter of Girdari, Shubam Gupta son of Ramesh Gupta, Sakshi daughter of RS Singh all residents of Sarwal. Rohit son of Ravinder Kumar, Mandeep son of Amrit Singh, Harpreet daughter of Jaatinder Singh, Himani Mahajan daughter of Ajay Gupta, Bavneet Kaur daughter of Ranjeet Singh, Somdeep Singh son of Surjeet Singh and Daman Kaur daughter of Joginder Singh, all residents of Rehari. Meeenakshi daughter of Ashok Kumar resident of Nagrota, Shubam Mahajan son of Kapil Mahajan of Exchange Road, Deeraj son of Ashok Kumar resident of Udhampur, Sheram Shah GM Shah and Rahul son of Bharat Bushan, Abinandan son of Jugal Kishore trio residents of New Plot. Manat Mengi son of Romesh Mengi and Shivani daughter of Sudarshan both residents of Dogra Hall and Pallavi Mahajan daughter of Rakesh resident of Billawar besides driver of the bus namely Jaswant Singh. Pacca Danga police has registered a case in this connection. |
