Organizational activities missing, lull in both regions
NC losing mass contact, grip on ground….?

EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Jan 18: A sizable number of the leaders in J&K Congress delegation who met party stalwarts in New Delhi recently apart from other issues alleged there was domination by the ruling partner NC not only in matters of governance but also in terms of functioning of two parties at the political level. The bottom line of the allegation was NC cadres and workers do not let Congress workers carry on with their activities, instead they promote their own political interests everywhere. As a ruling party, NC leaders and office bearers have been seen on the forefront, everywhere , but it has served no purpose for the party as a whole. A reality check however, shows NC is actually loosing mass contact and grip on the ground despite being in power and largest cadre based party of the state.
The allegations to this effect have been coming straight from the party functionaries who have valid reasons to substantiate it. The party has for a long time remained totally dysfunctional in terms of organising any convention or political rallies in both the regions of the state. Patron Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah held a meeting of the Working Committee some four months back amidst the turbulent phase in Kashmir Valley, when the talks of change of guard was ripe in political quarters. Even this meeting was attended by only members of committee who comprise only seniormost rung of the party. Ever since there has virtually been no political activity which keeps any political organization alive and its cadres and workers agile.
The party while in opposition used to have rallies and small level conventions at frequent intervals on regular basis far and wide both in Kashmir Valley as well as in Jammu province. That kind of activity is completely missing on the ground with no convention at small or large scale seen held, at least not in recent months. Surprisingly, the activities are missing even in areas where NC has stronghold in comparison to rivals. The party has neither organized any political show individually nor in collaboration with coalition partner NC for along time in pockets where both have strong political grip and ground. This is certainly seen in sharp contrast to what used to be a regular feature with previous coalition government, during initial years of government while PDP led the regime.
In the name of political shows, all that has been in recent past is organizing of Kissan Melas in few districts across the state. In Kashmir where NC has its wide base in many districts, even this kind of activity has been confined to four or five districts. So far as the composition of the crowd in such Melas is concerned, it is learnt that mostly Anganwari workers , government employees besides some supporters of the respective ministers in attendance constitute the gatherings.
Ironically, even the ministers of the ruling party are not working in cohesion nor seemingly in the interests of the party as a whole. Almost all the ministers in Valley have been organising some political activities but those have been seen confined to their constituencies, where only the supporters of respective ministers make up the gatherings. So far as the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is concerned, he has been able to make this rapport only through 'Awami Mulaquat' , an arrangement where he meets people with complaints not only from his own party but from all hues. So at his level as also at the level of his father Dr Farooq Abdullah, both have not been able to maintain regular contact, not to speak of gearing up or giving fillip to party activities. The result apparently is turning adverse. The NC is gradually losing contact not only with masses in general but with its own cadres and workers down the hierarchy. One wonders, is the party high command getting too much complacent………..?
