Sham inaugurates WSS, lays foundation of Causeway in Akhnoor

JAMMU, Jan 19: Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma today laid foundation stone of a Causeway at village Panjgrain and inaugurated Water Supply Scheme (WSS) at village Badgal in Akhnoor.
Causeway will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.21 crore within six months and would connect half a dozen villages with road link on completion. WSS has been accomplished at a cost of Rs. 96 lakh and will benefit over 20000 families of villages Badgal Khurd and Badgal Klan and adjoining localities.
Addressing largely attended public meetings at Panjgrain and Badgal, the Minister said that Government is aware of the problems being faced by the people of rural areas and all out efforts are made to mitigate these in a phased manner. He said that Government is working under a well-knit programme to upgrade the basic amenities in the rural and far-flung areas with special focus on health, education, road connectivity, drinking water and power.
Maintaining that development of villages is dependent on the road connectivity, the Minister said that more than 80 percent of villages of Akhnoor tehsil have been provided road connectivity and linked with the National Highway and Akhnoor town. Efforts are on to cover the remaining areas in the next couple of years, he said adding that with construction of second bridge over River Chenab at Akhnoor road connectivity with various parts of the Akhnoor and other districts, like Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi and Udhampur will improve considerably.
To improve economic conditions of people living in the Kandi areas, the Minister stressed on promoting the medicinal cultivation like Aloevera and Amla in a big way which are quite suitable under the climatic conditions. He directed the officers of Horticulture Department to organize an awareness camp in the area to educate the people about the benefits of these crops.
