Tahir scripts Mussa Club’s 2-0 win, enter pre-quarters

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 19: Beating DFA (District Football Association) Udhampur by two goals to nil, Mussa Club today sailed into next round of pre-quarterfinals in the ongoing 2nd Sher-e-Kashmir Gold Cup Football Tournament at Mini Stadium, Parade here.
Now, in the pre-quarters, Mussa Club shall take on Jammu Sports-A on January 22.
Earlier, Mussa Club dominated the proceedings throughout sparing little chance for the visiting Udhampur boys to break the strong defence line. Playing with mix of young and experience, Mussa Club took their first lead in the 12th minute through Tahir.
Tahir, who was at peak of his form, scored another goal in the 27th minute to make it 2-0 at the end of first half. However, after the breather, Mussa Club faced some resistance from Udhampur and failed in their attempts to further improve the lead.
This match was officiated by Rohny Yellop (referee), Ketan Kumar, Saudhagar Mattoo (assistant referee) and Moon Stephen (fourth feferee).
Young Star wins 4-3 in tie breaker
Meanwhile, in another first round match of the day, Young Star trounced DFA Samba 4-3 in tie breaker. Earlier, in the stipulated time, the match ended in a goalless draw. The game was completely dominated by Samba boys but could not give finishing to their moves. In fact, Young Star goal-keeper made a couple of brilliant saves in the first half of the play.
To decide the fate of the match, tie-breaker rules were applied which again could not bring in any result making it 3-3 after five panelity kicks. However, Young Star emerged winner in their sixth attempt on the net.
From winners, Young Star, Nitin Chetri, Nishad Ali, Manpreet Singh and Vicky successfully converted their kicks into net while Vikas and Ramesh Rana missed. Similarly, from DFA Samba, Chander Udhay, Rahul Dev and Raman Singh scored the goals while Akash Singh, Rakesh Kumar and Pushpinder Singh failed in their attempts on the net.
This match was officiated by Rajib Dev (referee), Harneel Singh, Vijay Kumar (assistant referees) and Sohal Lal (fourth referee)
FIXTURE: Young Rovers’ Club shall be playing against Vijay Club at 12.30 pm and DFA Poonch shall face Sainik Colony Club at 2.30 pm tomorrow.
