Height of efficient governance | Pile of pension cases pending in Udh under ISSS | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, Jan 19: Even as the state government has announced a number of schemes for the upliftment of the marginalized and neglected people of the society, the authorities concerned have failed to properly implement the xisting welfare schemes due to nepotism and corruption in the epartments concerned. According to sources, around 4000 applications are lying pending in he District Social Welfare Office in Udhampur and situation is almost ame in Tehsil offices . The Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS) s a scheme whereby physically challenged, destitute, widows/ ivorcees and old persons are being covered under old-age pension. Though the government claims 4000 applications are pending disposal in he district, sources in the Social Welfare Department said the number s more because the departments concerned had not prepared record of he exact number of pending applications. “The number continued to fluctuate every month,” sources said. Advocate G R Khajuria said ironically, under this scheme a meager mount of Rs 200 per month is being given to widows, destitute, ivorces and old people, while Rs 400 is being paid to physically hallenged persons. Interestingly, though the authorities are taking he excuse of the Centre’s delay in sanctioning fresh cases for not isposing of applications. However, according to an official document, his scheme is fully financed and sponsored by the Social WelfareDepartment of the state government. The scheme has so far covered beneficiaries, but a majority of them are also facing hardships in getting pension. Notwithstanding the claims of the authorities of ensuring the payment of pension by the 7th of every month, a majority of the pensioners are facing inordinate delay in getting pensions.
