DRC reviews achievements of Estate department

JAMMU, Jan 19: Departmental Related Committee (DRC) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative
Council on Estates department has asked concerned officers to work with utmost dedication, honesty and use funds earmarked for various works, including repairs and renovation judiciously.
The Committee headed by Abdul Gani Vakil appreciated the work of the department and underlined the need for close supervision, monitoring and adherence to the norms while executing works.
The Committee which met here today discussed various issues, including details of expenditure incurred on renovation and repairs of
Government Bungalows, Government Quarters and furnishing of offices in
Jammu and Srinagar during 2009-10 and 2010-11 and criteria adopted for purchase of furniture and furnishing items, its allotments and auction of old furniture and furnishing items.
The Committee suggested for installation of lift in Mini-Secretariat
Jammu. Giving brief details of progress achieved and projects in the pipeline, Director Estates said that the department has acquired 100 kanals of land at Pampore and 51 kanals at Nishat Srinagar for creation of more assets. It was informed in the meeting that out of Rs. 42 Crore budget allocation, 80% have been incurred so far on various works including repairs and renovation. It was also informed that 150 kanals have been purchased from Jammu Development
Authority at Sidhra where the department is planning to construct 1500 flats in next two years.
The meeting was told that 32 flats would be constructed at Sarwal while 30 flats hired in Bari-Brahmna. It was also informed that one more storey would be constructed over Mini-Secretariat Jammu and a building at Civil Secretariat Srinagar to accommodate the offices of Ministries. The building would be completed in three years.
It was informed in the meeting that 6 flats constructed at a cost of
Rs. 75 Lakh at Natipora would be put to use by May 2011 while as Press
Information Bureau building at Lal Chowk would be completed by the end
of March.
