Katra shopkeeper, cab driver held for selling bhaint on higher rate | | | JAMMU: A shopkeeper was today arrested by police at Katra for selling to a NRI a bhaint, which actually cost Rs 500, for Rs 20,000. A taxi driver, who had taken the NRI to the shop and got a commission of 40 per cent, was also arrested, police sources said. Alvin Ajay Kumar of Auckland, Newzealand, Tuesday hired a taxi from Jammu for Katra. Reaching Katra, taxi driver Akshay Kumar of Majalata took Alvin to New Luxmi Bhaint Bhandar where its owner Ajeet Kumar sold him a bhaint (prasad) for Rs 20,000. Alvin made the payment and asked Akshay to wait for him at Katra till he returned from the holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in Trikuta Hills. Sources said while going to the holy cave shrine, he came to know from some fellow pilgrims that he had been depued by the shopkeeper as the actual cost of the bhaint was not more than Rs 500. After having darshans of the goddess Mata Vaishno Devi in the holy cave shrine, Alvin returned to Katra this morning and lodged a complaint with police in this regard. Acting on his complaint, police apprehended the shopkeeper and the taxi driver and booked them under relevant sections of law. The money was later returned by the shopkeeper to Alvin. |
