Vijay Club, Sainik Colony win in football

JAMMU, Jan 20: Vijay Club and Sainik Colony won their respective matches to advance into the next round of the ongoing 2nd Sher-e-Kashmir Gold Cup Football Tournament at Mini Stadium, Parade here today.
In the first match of the day, Vijay Club trounced fighting Young Rovers’ by a solitary goal. The all important goal came in the 20th minute through Sahil Lehal.
Sahil, who got a pass on the right flank, did no mistake in his attempt to net the ball. He kicked the ball right over advancing goal keeper to the surprise of entire defence line.
It was followed by dilly dallying battle for rest of the game with both sides failing in their endeavour to score a goal.
Meanwhile, in another match of the day, Sainik Colony Club registered a 2-0 win over District Football Association (DFA) Poonch.
Vivek Choudhary in the 15th and Mohinder Singh in the 55th scored for the winners Sainik Colony.
Today’s matches were officiated by Rohny, Moon Madan, Saudagar Mattoo, Yusuf Don, Sohan Lal, Harneel Singh and Koushal Sharma.
FIXTURE: Young Heros’ to face NGR Club at 12.30 pm, followed by the second match between Churchill Brothers and Engineers XI at 2.30 pm tomorrow.

Clubs disobey directives

Despite strict instructions issued by the organizers of the Sher-e-Kashmir Gold Cup Football Tournament, the participating clubs arrive late thus making it difficult to complete the games in given time.
In today’s scheduled matches, one of the top football clubs of the state, Vijay Club could not get ready its playing XI thereby causing a delay of 60 minutes in start of first match.
“We have repeatedly requested the teams to report in time so that the match is started as per schedule. Delay in start of the game makes our position awkward before the spectators and the opponent teams,” organizing secretary of the tournament, Surinder Singh Bunty told SAN.
