Power scenario improving fast in J&K: Shabir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 20:- Minister of State for Power and CA&PD, Shabir Ahmad Khan has said that the power scenario in the inaccessible and hilly areas has improved to a large extent following the implementation of various state and centre power infrastructure upgradation schemes. The Minister was addressing a public meeting at R. S. Pora this afternoon. On the occasion, former ministers Abdul Gani Vakil and Garu Ram also addressed the gathering. The Minister said that the coalition government has in a landmark step towards giving significant fillip to the power generation in the State, recently signed memorandum of understandings (MOU) between State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC), National Hydro Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NHPC) and Power Trading Corporation India Ltd. (PTC) in presence of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah for execution of 2120 MW Hydro Electric Projects in the State. He said that a comprehensive view will be taken to enrich HT/LT power lines throughout the state and enrichment of these distribution lines with other power development projects which is priority operation. Abdul Gani Vakil in his address said that coalition government is endeavoring hard to transform Jammu and Kashmir from a power deficient State to a self-reliant one, adding that NHPC and PTC would pave the way for achieving the goal. He said that better utilization of rivers to the benefit of the State and its people is our concern and stressed to take best advantage of the potential available and the support from the government for harnessing this potential in an efficient manner.
