SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2011 | ‘Miya Ke Todi’ on Sitar spellbinds at SaMaPa Aalap | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 20: 12th Day of ongoing SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2011 vibrated with a brilliant Sitar recital by Ustad Saeed Zafar Khan at Army School, Kaluchak. The concert was attended by a large number of students and members of the School. Eminent Santoor maestro and composer Abhay Rustum Sopori was the Chief Guest. The function started with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the Principal Shri T.R. Ramesh, Sopori and musicians present on the occasion. Principal presented bouquets and mementos to artists and guests present on the occasion. Ustad Saeed Zafar commenced his recital with Raga Miya Ke Todi. Presenting a brief Aalap –Jod, he asked the entire school to join him and sing various melodic structures and compositions of the raga. It was followed by compositions in Teentaal and Ektaal. The audience was spellbound with his performance and enlightened with his presentation. He was accompanied by Sarit Das on Tabla who provided an equally refined playing and Poushali on Tanpura. Ustad Saeed congratulated the Principal for the great response that he received from the students. He said it was a memorable concert for him too to interact with the wonderful children. Earlier Abhay Rustum Sopori thanked school for continuously being a part of the SaMaPa movement and requested the students to maintain the essence of Indian art and culture.
