Anganwari worker allege exploitation | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 20: While the government is planning to establish more than 13000 new Anganwari centers in the state under Integrated Children Development Scheme (ICDS), 18,000 workers and helpers already associated with the project say that they are being exploited by the government. It is pertinent to mention here that ICDS Project is running in the state for last 35 years but each worker is being paid meager Rs. 1300 per month while a helper gets Rs 300 to 500 per month. Many of the worker said that most of them have not been paid for last many months. Pertinently, ICDS centers are meant to provide better education and food to the deserving children of the state, but there is no coordination between the concern authorities and the workers due to which the scheme hangs imbalance. Workers also alleged the higher authorities were not providing the food supply on time, and also it is low quality, which is not good for health of children. Sources disclosed that “No step has been taken by the administration for last ten years to raise salaries of the workers and helpers in Jammu and Kashmir. How can the workers work when they are not able to purchase necessary items for children”.
