Omar for measures to minimize road accidents | Asks departments, transporters to read from same page in this matter | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 20: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today underscored need for measures and reforms to minimize chances of road accidents in the state. Omar asked transporters and departments concerned to jointly contribute in this direction and ensure maximum passenger safety. "In Jammu and Kashmir especially on hilly routes we observe frequent accidents mainly due to overloading", he said adding that while government has geared up the machinery in checking this menace, "it is the bounded duty of transporters and vehicle operators to realize the responsibility in this regard". Chairing a meeting here today to look into issues raised by transporters in a memorandum presented to him, the Chief Minister said that government departments, transporters and vehicle operators have to read from same page so far as road safety and minimizing chances of accidents are concerned. Meeting was attended by the Finance Minister, Abdul Rahim Rather, Minister for Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon, Minister of State for Transport, Shabir Ahmad Khan, Political Advisor to the Chief Minister, Devender Singh Rana, MLC, T. S. Wazir, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner Transport, Dr. S. M. Fazlullah and representatives of transporter Bodies.
