Churchill Brothers beat Engineers XI to reach pre-quarters | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 21: Churchill Brothers defeated fighting Engineers XI making it 3-2 to enter the pre-quarterfinals of the 2nd Sher-e-Kashmir Gold Cup Football Tournament underway at Mini Stadium, Parade, here. Although the young side of Engineers XI took the first lead yet they lost the well contested game 2-3. Striking in the fifth minute, Hassan netted the ball thereby helping Engineers to take 1-0 lead. However, the lead was soon equalized by experienced Moon Stephen in the 16th minute making it 1-1 at the end of the first half play. After the breather, Engineers again went ahead with Sajjad Hussain netting the ball in the 43rd minute, but only to find the score leveled 2-2 in the 45th minute with Stephen scoring his second goal. Later, Adonis Mattoo powered Churchill Brothers to 3-2 lead bringing in much needed goal in the 51st minute. Now, in the pre-quarterfinals, Churchill Brothers shall take on the difficult side of Vijay Club on January 23.
Young Hero blanks NGR Club
Meanwhile, in first match of the day, Young Hero blanked NGR Club 3-0 to enter second round of the championship. Sanjeev (15th), Tushar Gurang (29th) and Rahul Sharma (38th) were scorers from winners Young Hero. For their foul play, two Young Hero players, including goal-keeper, Tushar Heer were shown yellow cards. Other being Vishal Heer.
