Udhampur College wins maiden chess title | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, January 21: Government Degree College Udhampur clinched the men’s inter-college chess title for the first time outplaying defending champion, SPMR College of Commerce 3-1 in the final played today at Gymnasium Hall of the University of Jammu here today. Except for the close contest between Inderjeet Singh and Munish Gupta, the visiting Udhampur College had easy sailing over the title holders, Commerce College. In the process, Deepak Thakur also lost his game against Rohit Bhardwaj of Commerce College. The Results (in favour of Udhampur College): Munish Sharma bt Joginder Kumar; Inderjeet Singh bt Munish Gupta; Sunil Kumar bt Simran Pal Singh; Deepak Thakur lost to Rohit Bhardwaj.
Parade College is new women’s champion
Guided by incharge chess of the college, Dr Harmeet Singh Sudan, Government College for Women (GCW) Parade emerged new women’s champion in the inter-college chess tournament. In the final, played today, GCW Parade trounced GGM Science College (evening) 3-1. Earlier, after beating reigning champion, Commerce College in the semi-finals, Parade College team was upbeat to claim the coveted title. The Results (in favour of GCW Parade): Rekha Thakur bt Seema Rukhwal; Neetika Gandotra bt Lalita Kumari; Gurpreet Kaur bt Nishu; Malika Mishra lost to Usha Birdi. The inter-college chess competitions were officiated by SP Sharma and Sushil Sawhney.
