J&K CAPD minister calls for intensifying market checking | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 21: Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Qamar Ali Akhoon today visited godowns of CAPD and Food Corporation of India (FCI) at Nehru Market and Chatta to take stock of food grains. Impressing upon checking the quality of essentials before dispatching it to the consumers, Minister directed the officers to ensure that quality food grains are stored in the departmental godowns. Substandard quality of rice should be immediately returned to FCI, he said and directed against any compromise on this account. He also called for repairing roof of the godown on war footing basis for proper storage of food grains. Later, Minister visited Sabzi and Fruit Mandi Narwal and took stock of the availability of essentials. He interacted with the wholesale shopkeepers and verified the wholesale rates of the perishable vegetables especially onion, potatoes, tomatoes and fruits. He sought cooperation from wholesale shopkeepers to provide vegetables to consumers at reasonable rates. Meanwhile, Akhoon has directed for releasing food-grains in advance for Kashmir valley and other hilly and far off districts of Jammu division. This, he said will help to distribute essentials smoothly during closure of National Highway and other routes due to inclement weather. Minister directed for release of additional quota of kerosene oil to the hilly districts to facilitate consumers of far-off areas. Commissioner Secretary CA&PD Pardeep Gupta, Director CAPD Parveez Malik, Senior Regional Manager HPC Tapas Bala , Manager IOC Atul Gupta, Plant Manager LPG A. K. Singh, Manager FCI T.R . Gupta, Area Manager IOC Ltd. J. K. Khajuria and Additional Secretary Imtiyaz Ahmad attended the meeting.
