Env committee for studying pollution level in twin capital cities | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 21: Committee on Environment (EC) of Legislative Assembly has called for conducting survey of twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar to ascertain level of pollution. The concerned departments were asked to come up with the comprehensive report in this regard. Committee, which met here today under the chairmanship of MLA, Mir Saifullah suggested roping in experts in the field for formation of the report in a scientific manner. It observed that no efficient strategy could be chalked out without solid findings and relevant data. Threadbare discussions were held on present status report of brick kilns operating unauthorized and illegally in the State, Environment Protection Act, Sewerage Treatment Plants at Bhagwati Nagar, functioning of stone crusher at Kandizal Pampore and dispose off garbages. Committee suggested for use of hard coke instead of timber in all furnace of the brick kilns functioning in the State to reduce pressure on fire wood. Legislators, Dr. Mustafa Kamal, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, Radhey Sham Sharma, Jugal Kishore, Mohammad Sharief Niaz, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Mir Zahoor Ahmad, Feroz Ahmad Khan, Mohammad Ashraf Ganai, Irfan Ahmad Shah and Bharat Bushan gave their valuable suggestions for controlling pollution menace.
