OSD transfers Rs. 40 cr unauthorizedly, govt orders attachment | Red in Health deptt | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 21: Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Secretary Health and Medical Education Dr Shafaqat Ahmed Khan has been attached by the government following charges of corruption against him. Sources said that Special Secretary Manzoor Ahmed Shah issued Order No 42/HME-2011 dated 20-01-2011 attaching Dr Shafaqat to Director Health Services Srinagar. Government has also appointed Special Secretary Sajjad Ahmed as enquiry officer and ordered him to submit report within a week. Sources said that the step was taken after a number of complaints were received by officials alleging that the OSD is misusing his official position and amassing wealth. They added that doctor is very close to higher officials of Health and Medical Education. According to official sources, the said doctor joined government service in the year 1997 but has since then remained busy in doing some other misleading duties in the department. "It is with the permission of Principal Secretary that he managed to be in six different posts in the health and medical department like Nodal officer to Tobacco Control, H1N1, Solid waste management and Nursing training besides Incharge Assistant Director AIDS Control," sources added. He disclosed that Dr Khan opened unauthorized bank account in J&K Bank moving branch Civil Secretariat Srinagar and transferred an amount of Rs. 40 crore from Government of India without any authorization from competent authorities. |
