Security tightened ahead of Republic day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 21: With just five days left for the Republic Day, tight security arrangements have been made to ensure an incident free national festival and to thwart designs of anti-national elements to disrupt the celebrations. Fool proof security arrangements have been put in place in and around Jammu city while strict vigil is also being maintained around the vital government installations including Airport, Railway Station and General Bus Stand. The police and paramilitary forces have encircled the entire Maulana Azad (MA) Stadium here in winter capital of the state, the main venue for the Republic Day function. Due to the strict security arrangements, the MA stadium has remained out of bounds for sportsmen for the past fifteen days. With the fresh attempts of intrusion along Indo-Pakistan international border in Pargwal sector of Akhnoor area today, the authorities are not taking chances and trying to plug-in loopholes, if any. Senior police officers are also reviewing security arrangements here as well as in other districts of the region for making the celebrations a grand success. The authorities have already taken several steps to gear up for the Republic Day as night patrolling has been started and nakas have been laid at all major intersections including Bikram Chowk, Indira Chowk and other areas besides all entry and exit points to the city. Vehicles entering from other states are specially being checked and belongings of passengers have been intensified in city during the past two-three days. Vehicles fitted with tinted glasses and sun films are being screened thoroughly. |
