Infiltration bid foiled on IB, 1 killed | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 21: Foiling an infiltration bid on the International Border (IB), BSF troops shot dead an intruder in Chak Phagwari area of Pargwal, Akhnoor, in the wee hours of this morning. Official sources said BSF troops at Chak Phagwari outpost noticed suspicious movement on the IB at about 4 am. Ambush parties were alerted soon thereafter. Sources said one intruder was shot dead by alert jawans when he reached the barbed wire fencing while at least two others managed to cross back to Pakistan unhurt. When the BSF men fired, the Pakistani Rangers also fired bullets from their Noordin forward post. The exchange of fire between the two sides lasted about 45 minutes. Sources said when the firing stopped, BSF men took the body into their custody and removed it to hospital mortuary. He seemed to be a guide as nothing was recovered from his possession, the sources added. Sources said a round-the-clock vigil was being maintained all along the IB and the Line of Control (LoC) following inputs that Pakistan would try to push militants into the Indian territory to create trouble on the eve of Republic Day. The border residents had also been asked to exercise vigil and contact police on the sight of any outsider in their area, the sources added. |
