NC accuses BJP of arousing ‘communal passions’ | ‘PDP, BJP working in tandem’ | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 21: A day after the NC led coalition government decided not to allow the atmosphere of state get ‘vitiated’ by BJP’s Ekta rally, ruling National Conference accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to arouse communal passions in the state while patted the government for its decision not to allow the BJP activists to hoist the national flag at Lal Chowk on Republic Day. Interestingly, the NC leaders did not lose time in holding a press conference on the issue, all to castigate and criticize in strongest terms the BJP. Terming the decision to disallow BJP’s proposed ‘Ekta Yatra’ a step in the right direction, Minister for Rural Development Ali Mohammad Sagar said that the flag hoisting at Lal Chowk in Srinagar on Republic Day, as rightly assessed by the state government had the potential of vitiating peaceful atmosphere in Kashmir valley. “The BJP is trying to spoil the situation in the Valley which has been brought under control after a lot of efforts,” Minister for Rural Development Ali Mohammad Sagar told reporters here today, peace in state was precious and it was duty of every party to help maintain peace in and order in the state. Sagar was speaking against the backdrop of the National Conference-Congress coalition government's decision to "stop the BJP's Rashtriya Ekta Yatra ", and blamed the BJP for "playing communal politics". Sagar also accused the BJP and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of working in tandem to "arouse communal passions in Jammu region as well as valley"."They had done it during the Amarnath land row agitation in 2008 and repeating it again now," he said Taking a dig at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and said it has failed to play the role of a ‘responsible opposition’. “NC doesn’t believe in match fixing or double speak. The PDP leaders must go for self introspection as it was the BJP which created PDP to scuttle the NC’s autonomy proposal. And vice-versa it was PDP that provided space to BJP in the valley,” Sagar alleged. He further said BJP had so many issue which it could rake up to play politics but it should not go ahead with its plans for January 26 in the larger interests of the state.
