Omar for hassle-free distribution of essentials in winter zone | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Jan 22: Stressing on adequate buffer raising of essential commodities and fuel in the winter zone of the State especially in snow-bound and remote areas, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today gave directions to Kashmir divisional administration to ensure hassle free distribution of edibles and LPG in the Valley. “Every measure is required to be in place to address public needs on this count and administration at all levels needs to be fully geared up”, he emphasized. Taking appraisal of the preparedness of the administration to face winter challenges at a high level meeting of divisional administration, the Chief Minister said that prospective planning to face exigencies on account of snowfall, torrential rains and water logging is imperative to keep the situation under control and restore the essential services promptly. The Chief Minister directed the CAPD to be more responsive to public requirements on account of essential commodities and LPG. “You should be on your toes to respond to the needs of people ensuring supply and distributions smoothly”, he told CAPD directing for keeping close watch on profiteers and black marketers. He said special attention has to be given to foil the practice of hoarding for creating scarcity of essentials during the blockade of national highway on account of weather vagaries. The Chief Minister said that prompt clearance of snow from roads and lanes is yet another task to be addressed urgently. He said men and machinery should remain alert to face any eventuality. He said mechanical engineering department and other related agencies should have close rapport with one another in this regard. Omar said that disruption of power during snowfall is a common phenomenon in the winter zone as such power department should be well versed with the importance of early restoration of power supply to the people especially important public service delivering institutions like health centres. The Chief Minister also reviewed the functioning of health centres and hospitals besides taking stock of the status of functioning of PHE installations. He also got first hand appraisal of the progress on work on various development schemes in the division. He directed the administration to speed up the pace of progress and ensure timeline completion of works.
