1/22/2011 11:05:54 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 22: Firing a salvo on Congress the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today asked it to clear its stand on unfurling of National Flag in view of the stand taken by the Omar Abdullah led coalition Government in the state to stop the Ekta Yatra of the Party to hoist the National Tricolour in historical Lal chowk at Srinagar on Republic Day.
Meanwhile BJP and BJYM activists are in upbeat mood and taking the challenge to hoist the national flag at Srinagar. An advance party is likely to leave for Kashmir valley by tonight. According to party sources, the police has warned the hotel owner not to accommodate any political worker. The Republic Day is a national festival and its importance is no less than any religious festival and Congress as well as NC leadership should join the BJYM in flag hoisting at Lal chowk, instead of opposing the same, Party state president Shamsher Singh Manhas.
He, while criticising the Congress and NC for politicising the issue, said it is not the BJP flag but Natioanl Flag which is being hoisted by the BJYM activists at Lal Chowk.
Turning tables on Congress and NC, Manhas said that they are unable to restrain the separatists from anti-national activities and the government has given them a free hand but it is hell bent to foil the nationalist forces attempt to hoist the Tricolour at Srinagar.
Meanwhile, the preparations are in full swing for the reception of Ekta Yatra at Lakhanpur and the BJP and BJYM activist spirits are high. Unmoved by the Government warning the BJP and BJYM activists are busy in erecting banners and flags on busy chowks and other places in the city.
While BJYM national general secretary Navin Nitin and senior BJP national leader Mohiner Pandy are camping in Jammu to see the arrangements, some more BJYM leaders from Delhi and other parts reached here to assist them.
The Party which has already erected over 20,000 flags has made a requisition for more 2000 flags, buntings and 10,000 headgears for Partymen. The Party flashed a message from the temporary control room of its office to its Delhi office this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the BJP and BJYM office bearers held a close door meeting here this afternoon to discuss the future strategy in view of the government decision to ban the yatra. A party spokesman later this reporter that BJYM is committed to take the yatra to Srinagar to unfurl the National Flag at Lal chowk and no power on earth can stop the Party from this.
The BJP office at parade is agog with activities as hundreds of partymen are daily visiting the office. BJP Mahila Morcha also convened a meeting this morning which was attended by the Morcha Prabhari and MLA from Himachal. The meeting asked the Party activists to ensure total participation in the programme.
