J&K border with Punjab being sealed to thwart BJP march | | | Jammu: The city has been placed under maximum security and the state's borders with Punjab have been sealed to prevent entry of BJP youth activists bent upon hoisting the national flag in Srinagar on Republic Day despite Jammu and Kashmir government's objections. "Top security has been put in place in Jammu and all entry points from Punjab into the state have been sealed bydeploying additional para-military personnel," a senior Police officer on Saturday said. The entry points into Jammu and Kashmir from Punjab-Lakhanpur and Nagri-Narole of Kathua district have been plugged to stop BJYM and BJP activists from coming to the state from Punjab. Jammu and Kashmir Police are engaged in sealing the state's border with Punjab at Lakhanpur to prevent the Bharatiya Janata Party's Tiranga Yatra from entering the state. The BJP plans to hoist the Indian tricolour at Srinagar's Lal Chowk on the Republic Day. Police contingents have been dispatched to Lakhanpur, the gateway of Jammu and Kashmir, 90 km south of Jammu. The personnel will be deployed on a bridge linking Madhopur in Punjab with Lakahanpur of Jammu and Kashmir, a source said. The BJP's activists who have joined the Rashtriya Ekta Yatra, or national unity march, that started off from Kolkata Jan 12, are slated to enter the state Monday. The policemen have been ordered not to allow any vehicle or marcher of the BJP into the state. "If need be, there would be use of force," said a police officer. |
