Chaman deplores arrests of BJP activists
1/23/2011 9:35:06 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 23: The leader of the BJP Legislature Party Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has deplored the arrests and harassment of the nationalists, who planned to hoist tri-colour at Lal Chowk on Republic Day.
Prof Chaman Lal observed that it all reminds of the black days of 1952 and 1953 when this flag in this part of the country was taken as alien and who dared to hoist it were shot at.
“It was unfortunate that Congress – National Conference ruling leaders have not learnt any lesson from the happenings of the past,” Prof Chaman said adding that it is general saying that history repeats.
Hence the rulers must not forget the past.
Addressing meeting of the Legislative and also those of the party activists Prof Gupta said that the nationalists in Jammu and Kashmir have high stakes as in 1952-53 seventeen patriots were shot dead in
this part of the country by the police just for hoisting the tri-colour and Dr Shayama Prashad Mookherjee had to make his supreme sacrifice to get demolished the barriers like that of permit system and several other waits of separatism between this state and rest of the India.
He pointed that Article 370 was incorporated as a Temporary Provision but amazingly this still existed in the status book even after over 60 years of its incorporation.
The BJP leader said that this Article has come to be the root cause of many problems in Jammu and Kashmir including the communal virus of secessionism, Autonomy self-rule and even that of the slogans of Azadi.
About the opposition of the BJP Rashtiya Ekta Yatra and programme of flag hoisting, Prof Gupta said that this phenomenon was not new for the BJP.
Prof Gupta said that testing times are ahead because of the despotic approach adopted by the ruling leaders but at the same time the rulers must know that it is not 1952-53 but 2011, when the Congress at the Centre is already in doldrums.
