2 hurt as police beat up teachers at MA Stadium entrance | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 23: While some teachers today insisted to let their vehicles enter the high-security MA stadium here, police allegedly beat them up, resulting in injuries to two of them. Police sources said as MA stadium was the main venue of Republic Day celebrations in the winter capital, entry of private vehicles to it had been strictly banned. Teachers of some schools, who had come to the stadium along with students to stage the rehearsal of programmes they were to present on R-Day, allegedly wanted to take their vehicles inside. Over this issue, there were heated exchanges between the two sides. Two teachers were wounded when cops tried to push them to a side. The injured were identified as Joginder Sharma of Peermitha and Purshotam Singh of Patta Paloura. They were hospitalised. Agitated over the police action, the teachers held a demonstration at the stadium entrance, demanding action against the guilty cops. Senior police officers later reached the spot and assured the teachers that action would taken against the cops who had allegedly manhandled them. Following this assurance, the teachers dispersed peacefully. |
