J&K Police reaches semis of Football | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 24: Defending champion, Jammu and Kashmir Police today became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the ongoing 2nd Sher-e-Kashmir Gold Cup Football Championship at Mini Stadium, Parade, here. In the quarterfinals, played today, J&K Police trounced Mussa Club in a well contested match by two goals to nil. Leading by a goal in the first half of the game, Police improved the lead in the last minute of the match to make it a 2-0 win. Earlier, Ramesh Verma took the first lead for Police striking in the 27th minute. The second goal came in the 89th minute through Ranjay Kumar. The game was so tense that four of the police players were shown yellow cards by the referee for foul play. They were Sandeep Sharma, Imtiaz, Zahid Zahoor and Gulzar Ahmed. Now, J&K Police shall be playing their semi-final on January 29. In another match of the day, Young Star defeated Param Football Club by a solitary goal. The only goal of the match came in the 69th minute through Abhishek Gurang. FIXTURE: J&K Bank shall take on Young Heroes in the pre-quarterfinal at 12.30 pm on January 27.
Injury prone ground
The football ground at Mini-Stadium, Parade has become so hard that it has resulted into injuries to players playing in the ongoing football tournament. Players have not been able to play their natural game, the reason being they have become more cautious about their safety finding the ground injury prone. In fact, during the last some time, the custodian of the ground, J&K State Sports Council has failed to protect the field and maintain it proper way.
