Five Dogri personalities honoured | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 24: Five personalities belonging to literature, art and journalism were honoured by Dogri Sanstha during a function organized in connection with celebrations of Dogri Manta Din. The Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion. Those who were honoured for their outstanding contribution in their respective fields included Tara Smailpuri, a veteran Dogri poet, Suraj Saraf, a senior journalist, Desh Bandhu Dogra Nutan, senior writer, Santosh Khajuria, senior poet and Ravinder Singh Jamwal, national and internationally known sculptor. Another highlight of the function was presentation of Tarana of Sanstha written and composed by Brij Mohan for which music has been arranged by Kuldeep Saproo. Speaking on the occasion, Minister said that it is duty of the people of Jammu region to safeguard their culture and heritage. “We must try to enrich our mother tongue in what ever manner we can afford so to pass on this to future generations”, he said. He said that Vijay Bakaya, MLC, Ashok Khajuria, MLA, Ajay Sadhotra, MLC have committed to contribute Rs 10 lakh each towards this project. He said that MLC Ravinder Sharma has also committed to contribute Rs 4 lakh towards the project. Prof. Magotra appealed to Dogri loving people to contribute towards this prestigious project which is envisaged to be a symbol of Dogra culture. Earlier a short musical programme also enthralled the audience. The event was conducted by Prof. Shashi Pathania, Head, PG Department of Dogri, University of Jammu and citations about the felicitated personalities were read by Prof. Veena Gupta, General Secretary of Dogri Sanstha.
