Sham for rejuvenating functioning of ISM
Lays foundation of Rs. 77 lakh AYUSH polyclinic

Jammu, Jan 24 – Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Sham Lal Sharma has called for total rejuvenation of the functioning of Department of Indian System of Medicines (ISM) and effective measures for promoting AYUSH in a big way.
The Minister was addressing the doctors and paramedics after inaugurating one-day medical camp-cum-workshop organized by the Ayurveda Regional Research Institute (ARRI), Department of AYUSH, and Government of India in collaboration with Directorate of Indian System of Medicines (ISM) at the Ayurvedic hospital here today.
Minister of State for Health and Medical Education, Javid Ahmed Dar, Director, ISM, Dr. Abdul Kabir Dar, Director Family Welfare, Dr. Rakesh Khajuria, Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr. Ashok Sharma, Mission Director, NRHM, Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Project Director J&K AIDS Control Society, Dr. Wasim Qureshi, Controller Drugs & Food Control Organization, Satish Gupta, Assistant Director, ARRI Dr. Krishna, ex-Directors ISM and doctors of ISM and health department were also present on the occasion.
Pointing out that the ISM department could not grow properly during the past some years in the State due to certain reasons, Sham said the present coalition Government has initiated various decisions to strengthen it. The Government has already decided to revive two Ayurvedic or Unani colleges in the State and created one full-fledged Medicinal Plant Board to give boost to the activities of this important department.
Sharma asked the Director, ISM to take immediate measures to improve the overall functioning of the department. He said that further promotions and postings of doctors will depend on their individual performance.
Appreciating the gesture of the Ayurveda Regional Research Institute, AYUSH for holding the medical camp and workshop, the Minister said that the effort will go a long way in educating the people and attract them to avail maximum benefits of AYUSH treatment.
Later, the Minister also laid foundation stone of Rs 77 lakh Poly Clinic Block of AYUSH to be constructed in the premises of Ayurvedic hospital. He also inaugurated the newly constructed Conference Hall of the hospital.
In her valedictory address, Dr. Krishna said that Ayurveda Regional Research Institute was keen to assist the ISM department in every sphere and would take measures to promote AYUSH in Jammu and Kashmir. She said that patients suffering from different ailments will be examined and provided free medicines in the Medical Camp, which has been organized as a part of National Campaign on Ayurveda 2010-11.
