PCC leader's son among 3 killed, 20 hurt in road mishaps

Jammu/kishtwar, Jan 24: A PCC leader's son and two others were today killed and 20 others, including a police Inspector, an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer and a Delhi police cop, wounded in separate road mishaps in the region today.
PCC secretary Mohammad Sultan of Shaheedganj, son Jamshed Sultan and a PSO were on their way from Jammu to Srinagar when their Maruti Gypsy (JK02V/8596) collided head-on with a Maruti Esteem (DL3CAF/5515) near Toatri Nullah in Udhampur.
In the collision, while Jamshed died on the spot, Mohammad Sultan, his PSO and eight car occupants sustained critical injuries, police sources said.
The car was carrying hawala operators -- Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, Farooq Ahmad Dagga and Ghulam Jeelani -- from Srinagar to Jammu. They were being escorted by a police Inspector, two cops, an IB officer and a Delhi police cop. All of them were wounded. The injured were admitted to the Udhampur district hospital and later referred to the GMC hospital here.
Bhat, Dagga and Jeelani were apprehended by police in Srinagar Saturday last along with a hawala money of Rs 21 lakh. The Delhi police had come here to take custody of Bhat, who was arrested in a similar case three years ago in Delhi, and his two accomplices.
In another incident, a woman was killed and 10 others were injured when the Tata Sumo (JK06/2537) carrying them met with an accident in Kishtwar.
The dead was identified as Sanjokita, wife of Lakhni Chand of Salana, Kishtwar. Eight of the injured included Gita Devi, wife of Om Parkash , Kailash Kumar, his wife Arti Devi, son Akhil Gupta, daughter Sonam Gupta, Manisha Devi, daughter of Sudesh Kumar, Kalawati, wife of Kahan Chand and Ishtaq Ahmad. The injured were admitted to hospital and the condition of some of them was stated to be critical. Meanwhile, an unidentified pedestrian was killed after he was hit by a speeding minibus at Gadigarh near here Sunday night. Sources said a man was last night walking by the roadside at Gadigarh when a speeding minibus (JK02R/9435) hit him, resulting in serious injuries to him.
He was admitted to the GMC hospital where he died this morning. Cases in this connection stand registered at the concerned police stations.
