| VO registers 131 FIRs in two years, exposes multicrore scams | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 25: In order to fight menace of corruption, government has strengthened legal measures like introduction of Benami Transaction (Prohibition) Act 2010, amendment to PC Act to facilitate the attachment of property during investigation and forfeiture during trial. SVO has also caught red handed middle rung officers while demanding and accepting bribe. These included an Assistant Commissioner, two Tehsildars, an XEN, and an Inspector of Police and several other officers at the cut off level. As many as 70 FIRs were registered in 2010 as against 61 FIRs in 2009 and 57 cases were challaned in the court of law in 2010 as against 40 in 2009 As many as 46 Public servants were caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe. Conviction in 4 cases was awarded in 2010 including the conviction of Parshotam Kholi, the then Assistant Executive Engineer, Irrigation Flood Control Department, Jammu and Mohammad Muzaffer Khan, the then SHO Police Station Nagrota, Jammu. State Vigilance Organisation has also registered cases against a dozen of HoDs including 2 Chief Engineers and 3 Directors for abuse of official position which are being investigated. Various cases of misappropriation and abuse of official position like Hill Kaka Scam, fraud in disbursement of compensation of land at Pahalgam and illegal allotment of land in Jammu have been challaned for judicial determination
