JAMMU, Jan 25 – While complimenting people on the eve of Republic Day¸ Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand said with the joint efforts of government and people, the state is marching fast on the path to development and prosperity.
Recalling the enduring commitment and sacrifice of patriots for the motherland, the Deputy Chief Minister said freedom has been hard earned and now it is duty of each and every citizen to contribute in Nation building. India has shown remarkable achievements in varied fields and is now recognized as one of the strongest global economy, he added.
“On the day we must reaffirm our pledge to fulfill the cherished dream of freedom fighters, who had envisioned independent India as a strong, secular and democratic Nation,” he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at an impressive cultural extravaganza organized by the Department of Information and Public Relation, in connection with 62nd Republic Day celebrations at Abhinav Theatre, here this evening.
The scintillating cultural program showcased composite cultural heritage of the State and had the jam-packed audience spell bound.Mr. Tara Chand said government is committed for equitable development of all three regions of the state and various development initiatives have been taken to uplift socio-economic profile of the state. He said with the active support of central government, the state government is working on the road map to make the state a model state.
Speaking at the function the Deputy Chief Minister said that the state has unique history of cultural togetherness and a distinct composite culture has evolved over the time. He said the land is abode of Sufis, Saints and Rishis, who have shown the path of mutual co-existence and brotherhood.
“This unique cultural history has enabled people of different faiths and beliefs to live together in peace and harmony and also helped them to come out of the troubled times,” he said.
Appreciating the performance of artists, Mr. Tara Chand praised Information department for presenting great show and for its extraordinary contribution in disseminating information at various levels.
Earlier, Director Information Kh. Farooq Renzushah welcomed the dignitaries and presented a brief resume of activities of the department.Prominent among those present at the function included former Director General Police Mr. M.M. Khajuria, former IGP Mr. S.S. Bijral.
Patriotic color was predominant in the cultural programme which was presented by the students of MIER College of Education, Government College of Women, Gandhi Nagar, troupes and artists of Information Department.
