Republic Day: State of nation

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 25: Wednesday is a Republic Day. It's a great day for the Indian nation. President of India would address the nation tomorrow. Similarly, all the Governors would address the people in their respective states. All the ministers in the union government and all the ministers in the state governments would also do the same. Everyone who matters in the Indian State would reflect on the achievements the country has made during all these years of independence and would make a solemn commitment that the custodians of the Indian State are committed to the cause of the country and the people and praise the Indian political system as a great democracy; as a government of the people, by the people and for the people; and everyone who matters in the Indian State would again make a commitment that he/she is committed to protect and advance further the country's sovereign rights and interests. Everyone who matters in the Indian State would make a solemn commitment that he/she would work to the hilt to maintain the unity and integrity of India and isolate and neutralize forces inimical to India.
Everywhere, except the Srinagar's Lal Chowk, people would hoist the national flag with great enthusiasm and pomp and show. Everyone would remember the supreme sacrifices of those who gave up their lives for the cause of the country and to achieve political emancipation from the foreigners, the Britons included, and rededicate himself/herself to the cause of the country. Everywhere, except Kashmir, people would participate in the Republic Day celebrations in large number and with great enthusiasm to demonstrate their identification with the cause of the country and to tell the would that they are one and they are committed to defeating the enemies of the nation. The people's participation would be voluntary and it's natural. After all, they are all committed Indians. There should be no doubt it. They are the country's last hope. They are the torch-bearers. They would be the saviours.
However, is there anything in the country, except the common people, to appreciate, cheer, hail and boast of? No, there is nothing whatever. There is anarchy everywhere. The Parliament has not been able to function because the ruling elite doesn't want the opposition to have any say whatever. It has politicized CBI. It is misusing it to settle scores. It is implicating innocents and defending to the hilt those involved in multi-crore scams. The Supreme Court of India is criticizing the Union Government almost everyday and directing it to take action against the wrong doers, but with no result. The state governments have failed to deliver and ensure smooth assembly sessions because the rulers in the respective states are no different from the rulers ruling or misruling from New Delhi. There are scandals. There are multi-crore scams.
There is mal-administration. None is accountable. None is transparent. None is people-centric. There is nepotism. A handful of people who are part of the establishment or who are close to the corridors of power have become masters of the land. Everything in the country has become their sole preserve. The whole of the administrative set-up has collapsed. Almost all the institutions have crumbled and lost their sheen. They are controlled and manned by those who have no or scant regard for the rule of law and the people. They are on a looting spree. They are cheating the nation and stashing the taxpayers' money to foreign banks and they have stashed till date 70 million crores of rupees, thus making the nation pauper and multiplying the number of people living below poverty line. In other words, there is corruption and corruption is rampant and deep-rooted. The politicians and their kith and kin are also on a looting spree. They are grabbing land and what not. There is a close nexus between politicians, mafia, police, bureaucracy, business houses and who not and they have grabbed everything. Even some top military officials have become part of the nexus. Former Chief of the Army Staff V K Kapoor is just one of them. Kapoor had described the 2008 Amarnath land movement in Jammu as communal. It is only because of some handful of politicians, bureaucrats, police officials, ministers and men and women working with the government that the system has not totally collapsed.
The anti-national elements are reigning supreme. One Chief Minister is openly attacking the institution of the Indian state and using the floor of the assembly to say that Jammu and Kashmir has only acceded and not merged with India. The separatists, including Kashmiri separatists and Maoist/Naxalite terrorists, have unleashed a hate and break-India campaign. Men at the helm are treating most of the separatists, especially radical Islamists, with kid gloves and despising those who want action against the subversives and separatists. They are dubbing the nationalists as communal, anti-national, divisive, irresponsible, backward-looking, regressive, reactionary, primitive and unaccommodating. The situation has climaxed to the point that the authorities in the state and New Delhi have even prevented the BJP from hoisting national flag at Srinagar.
Our foreign office is in complete disarray. It has not been able to hold its own against China, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, and even Bhutan. The United States and similar other countries are also browbeating, blackmailing and exploiting India and Indian resources. China is openly staking claim to Arunachal Pradesh and parts of Jammu & Kashmir, in fact, to the whole of Himalayas. Islamabad is abusing and taunting India. It is striving to grab Jammu & Kashmir and dismember India. It is bleeding the Indian nation. In fact, our foreign office has created a situation that has enabled the enemies to encircle India.
One can write a whole book on the state of Indian nation, which is in a very bad shape. Everything is disappointing and discouraging. Everything is uninspiring. This is the state of nation. God save India. It is now up to the people to take remedial measures and save India from the impending disaster.
