Over 500 BJP activists were arrested when they tried to bring out a rally in Jammu as part of the flag hoisting plan at Lal Chowk. Even as the leaders tried to convince they would take out the rally in a peaceful manner, Police resisted their march and stopped mid way. This infuriated the activists some of whom indulged in skirmishes with the police. Condemning the attitude of the administration in crossing all the limits and adopting repressive measures to silent the peaceful protestors, BJP Chief spokesperson and National Executive Member Dr. Jitendra Singh said that today's outrage against democracy will go down as a dark day in the history of independent India as the day long developments were reminiscent of British Rule when no one was allowed to utter a word of dissent or register protest against the administration. Talking to reporters Dr. Jitendra said it was unfortunate that nationalist people drawn from all corners of the country were punished for carrying Indian tricolour and raising Bharat Mata Ki Jai. In doing so, the government has got itself totally exposed by showing extreme disresepct for the national symbols and presenting poor image of the J&K state not only in the country but worldwide as a result of which this is now no longer an issue confined to BJP alone but a matter of concern for all the nationalist citizens of Indian Republic living in India as well as abroad. Dr. Jitendra Singh also strongly condemned the unleashing of brutal repression against peaceful marchers of Rashtriya Ekta Yatra led by National BJYM President Anuragh Thakur trying to enter into Jammu & Kashmir state in their bid to reach Srinagar's Lal Chowk for flag hoisting on Republic Day. On behalf of the Central and state leadership of the party, he appealed the masses to come out in large numbers to hoist the tricolour in different parts of the state with enthusiasm and celebrate the republic day with full fervour. He said that open murder of democracy was witnessed in Jammu city when the state government used the men in khaki to prevent peaceful expression of nationalism and protest against the arrest of their senior leaders by activists and leaders of BJP and BJYM.
