Pre-paid users in J&K can call instead of sending SMS for MNP | | | AGENCIES NEW DELHI, Jan 26: In view of the ban on sending SMSes using pre-paid mobile connections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Government has asked service providers to register subscribers' request through voice calls to 1900 instead. As per the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) guidelines, any subscriber that wishes to change their service providers can send an SMS to 1900 for the purpose of generation of an Unique Porting Code (UPC), which is subsequently passed on to the new operator for necessary action. But in the case of J&K, the service providers have been asked to make necessary arrangements for receiving calls on 1900. "The operator at 1900 shall provide the subscriber UPC after verifying his/her number with Caller Line Identification. Also, the operator shall maintain a record of all the UPCs issued, along with the mobile number and date of issue of UPC," an official notification said. In the rest of the country, a UPC can be generated just by sending a SMS on 1900 to avail the MNP service. |
