| BJP workers gherao Finance Minister's car | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Jan 26: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers today gheraoed the official vehicle of state Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather's to register protest against the state government preventing party leaders from taking their flag-hoisting march to Srinagar. The minister was inside the car which was proceeding towards Raj Bhawan for participating in the "At Home" function organized by the Governor NN Vohra this evening.
Soon after the BJP stalwarts Arun Jaitely and Sushma Swaraj left the party headquarters at Kacchi Chowni, a group of party activists came out in groups and held protest demonstration on the main road raising anti government slogans. As Finance Minister's car along with cavalcade of security vehicles passing through same route reached the spot where activists had assembled, the later stopped the VIP movement and attacked the Rather's vehicle. They tore the state flag and NC flag that hung around the vehicle . The angry workers while gheraoing the vehicle tried to smash the window panes of the vehicle but were prevented by the security from doing so.
In fact the trouble began when the workers tried to stop the vehicle of the minister to register their protest. But as the driver drove on , it hit some of the workers resulting in some minor injuries to few. This act infuriated the workers who attacked the vehicle The activists spotted the minister's vehicle and tried to stop it but the driver drove on, hitting a few BJP workers. |
