Yatra has ended, political debate 'begins' now: Jaitely | Says govt strategy was abduction of political leadership, Omar's invitation farcical, issue to echo in Parliament: Sushma | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 26: A day after the state government foiled their attempt to proceed with Ekta Yatra towards Srinagar for flag hoisting, the BJP top leadership today spit venom at both Centre and state for what they termed as psychological and ideological surrender to separatists in Kashmir. Arun Jaitely termed their strategy as 'abduction of political leadership', an offence that warrants explanation from different quarters and 'disgrace to the Indian nation. He asserted even as Yatra has ended but this heralds beginning of an 'ideological debate' on relations of J&K with Centre, a cause for which Shyama Prasad Mukherjee sacrificed his life. Sushma Swaraj termed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's invitation of attending official functions of Republic Day as farcical and vowed the issue would be vehemently raked up in both the Houses of Parliament. The BJP leaders stated this in a hurriedly arranged press conference soon after they reached Jammu this afternoon. All the leaders of the party were released early in day after which they hoisted national tricolour at Kathua. "It is first time in history of independent India that both Centre and state governments have proved hoisting of national colour is a crime…..they have proved that not only the unfurling of flag is a crime but also carrying or holding it is offencible thing", Jaitley said adding that the whole approach of diverting the trains amounted to hijacking a serious crime for which both Railway ministry and Home Ministry will have to explain the reasons. Slamming the state government Sushma Swaraj termed the entire approach of government as uncalled for and unheard of. "This is an extraordinary situation. India completes 61 years of being a Republic. This is the first Republic Day after Emergency when Leaders of Opposition of both Houses of Parliament were kept under arrest. We were taken into custody for wanting to hoist the tricolour in our own state of J and K. Is that a crime? She asked, questioning what kind of a Republic they were in? Jaitley said both the Centre and the state government wanted to send a message to the separatists that the BJP leaders have been stopped to appease them. Swaraj rubbished over the way they were treated in the state, Arun Jaitely said it only exhibited there is no democratic space for the opposition which is simple terms can be described as abduction of political leadership. He said the party will now start a serious political debate on relations of state with the Centre- Mukherjee Mission which they intended to take forward through Ekta Yatra. Angry over the way Omar Abdullah invited BJP leaders to official functions, Sushma Swaraj mocked at the former contending it was farcical as he extended the invitation when all the leaders were under detention. "We were given release orders in the afternoon while the official functions were over at 10 a.m…… How could the chief minister expect the two leaders to attend the Republic Day function when they were in jail?" Swaraj said angrily. The leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha reiterated that the matter was not all over with culmination of Yatra. " The whole issue of illegal approach in dealing with and thwarting the flag hoisting programme would be raked up in both the Houses", she maintained, contending that by not allowing to hoist national tricolor the "government did not commit mere crime instead a sin...
