Sumah to be developed as tourist village: Sham | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 27: With a view to explore tourism potential in the Jammu division, the Central Government on the recommendations of State Government has agreed to put Sumah village falling in Akhnoor tehsil on the National Tourist Map. The Government has also earmarked Rs. 5.22 crore for the development of this village as a religious tourist destination in its first phase. This was disclosed by the Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma while addressing a gathering of people at a Republic Day function organized at Government Higher Secondary School, Jourian today. The Minister apprised that Sumah village is famous for its rich heritage and religious background and thousands of pilgrims from different parts of the country pay visit there. Taking cognizance of the importance of the place, the Government is intending to develop it on the pattern of Jia Pota Ghat Akhnoor and Ganga-Haridwar, said Sharma. Sharma also announced that the Government would establish a Nursing School (Para-medical Institute) at Akhnoor for the facilities of thousands of youth of Akhnoor and adjoining localities. Throwing light on the importance of Republic Day, the Minister said that nation is indebted to thousands of Heroes of freedom struggle who gave sacrifices for attaining the independence. Earlier, he hoisted the National Tricolour and took salute at the march past presented by the cadets of NCC and school children. He also gave away prizes to the students who excelled in different cultural activities. SDM Akhnoor, Ashok Sharma and all sectroral officers were present on the occasion.
