KU throws recruitment rules to winds to accommodate favorites

Jammu, Jan 27: The Kashmir University authorities have been accused of violating recruitment rules to accommodate hundreds of favorites, a local news agency quoting `inside' sources said today.
Most of the posts, sources said, that have been filled during the past two years were never advertised.
The appointments, they said, have been made in administration, transport, examination, Iqbal Library and various other departments in the KU. "The appointments have been made against posts of computer operators, data entry operators, gardeners and even sweepers ", the sources said.
A senior official preferring anonymity said that a deputy Registrar got scores of his relatives employed during the past two years.
The University has become a recruitment centre for the relatives of the officials, the sources sad. Some of them have managed to get their domestic aids appointed as class fourth employees in the university, the sources sad.
The university statute has down a clear policy for recruitments. But, sources sad, the guidelines have been observed more in breach during the past two years. Allegations of `money changing hands' in some cases have also been leveled against he authorities.
Interestingly, the Vice Chancellor, Riyaz Punjabi was nominated for Padam Shree Award on the Republic Day.
The Public Relations Officer, Showkat Shafi told the news agency that the allegations were false. He made clear that most of the posts had been duly advertised.
However, he admitted that some appointments had been made against un-advertised posts. "But there number is very few, And these aren't permanent appointments, but stop-gap arrangements", he said.
He also denied that the relatives of University officials had been preferred. "If at all it has happened, it has nothing to do with the recruitment process in the University", he said.
