RP demands action against Ram Bagh SHO | 17 BJP activists sent to judicial remand for attacking Minister's car | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 27: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Seh Prabhari J&K, RP Singh who was yesterday arrested at Srinagar along with other Partymen from Rajasthan for their bid to hoist the National Flag at Lal Chowk has lodged a strong protest in Union Capital today against the J&K Police and State administration. Singh, who along with other Party workers managed to reach Srinagar after defying all the security bandobast to hoist the Tri Color at historic Lal Chowk on Republic Day yesterday was arrested along with his other colleagues while displaying the Flag in the Winter Capital. They were released only after the matter was taken up with the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah by Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitely at 10 pm yesterday. Singh said that he along with his colleagues were roughed up by the police huddled in the vehicles to Ram Munshi Bagh Police Station. He said the police intimidated all the BJP leaders who were arrested along with him and given a severe warning for visiting Kashmir and trying to hoist the National Flag here. He held the SHO of Ram Munshi Bagh Police Station responsible for all the brutalities and torture to which he and his colleagues were subjected to in Ram Munshi Bagh Police Station. ``I being a senior leader of a national party was not spared and dragged by the police men by hair'', he added. Singh has demanded a probe into the matter and action against the SHO Ram Munshi Bagh for misusing his official position. ``Being an Indian hoisting of the National Flag at Lal Chowk was my birth right and I have been doing it since 2008'', he added. Accusing the police of siding with separatists Singh said such police officers who have doubtful integrity be sacked immediately as they are a grave threat to national unity and integrity. Questioning the authority of J&K police for arresting the BJYM and BJP activists he said hoisting of National Flag is a Constitutional Right and every citizen of India is entitled to unfurl the Tricolor at any part of the country. Debarring a Indian citizen form hoisting the Flag is a crime under law and people responsible for the same be dealt seriously under law. Turning tables on coalition Government in the state and UPA Government at the Centre whom he blamed for debarring BJYM and BJP activists from unfurling the National Flag at Srinagar, he said the J&K is not the personnel property of Sheikh or Nehru dynasty who have created all the mess in the state since 1947. Meanwhile 38 BJP activists including the Kashmir provincial chief of the Party Sofi Yousf were released from Central jail today on bail. However the five BJP activists are still in jail. They were arrested on January 22 and 23 under Section 107/151 RPC. A BJP spokesman said that several party activists were seriously injured in police action at Srinagar yesterday and legs and arms of some activists got fractured after they were ruthlessly beaten and tortured by police. Since the incident of attack on minister’s car was unintential, it should be given a lenient consideration he added. Meanwhile, 17 BJP activists 14 from outside the J&K and three from Jammu who were arrested by police yesterday for attacking the car of Finance Minister, Abdul Rahim Rather were sent for judicial remand today. |
