Forest labourers demand inquiry in deptt irregularities | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 28: J&K Forest Corporation Labour Union has demanded independent inquiry in the alleged irregularities committed by the Managing Director of the State Forest Corporation (SFC). Union has alleged that management has adopted corrupt practices and is routinely harassing the lower staff. Addressing a press conference chairman of the union Sat Pal Sharma said that the laborers discharging their duties for last 25 to 30 years have virtually become the employees of the corporation, but management is treating them badly. “They have been working at Bachan depot, Bahu Fort, Janipura depot, Sunjwan depot and Aik Depot. Thus SFC is under obligation to improve their working conditions and provide them all the benefits entitled to those working as such for such a long time”, Sharma said. He said that despite the court order to bring labourers under the scheme of Provident Fund (PF) the MD is not caring for the same and not making deductions for the PF. Sharma alleged that management had floated fresh tenders for engaging laborers against which the already engaged laborers filed a writ in the High Court and the High Court served stay orders against the same. “But the MD is flouting the court order and is continuing to receive the tenders. Thus the sword of uncertainty hangs over the labourers”, he said. Sharma further alleged that the MD is misguiding the Forest Minister and the Govt. that the laborers have gone on indefinite strike. “The actual position is that he is creating the conditions where the workers are not allowed to discharge their duties”, Union has alleged. Union has alleged that from Sunjwan depot, there was auction of 425 cu feet of wooden logs in 2008. Khair wood at Janipur depot was auctioned leading to loss of several crores to the government.
