VIP treatment to Geelani, Mirwaiz: Why not?

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 28: That the NC-Congress-led Government in the Jammu and Kashmir has been according a VVIP treatment to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and others and that the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre is doing the same is not at all surprising. Similarly, it should not surprise anyone in the country if the state government accorded a very special treatment to Geelani the other day and accommodated him in the "VIP lounge at the country's most sensitive" Srinagar airport, notwithstanding the fact that such thing happened for the "first time." After all, India is ruled by those who contemptuously dub as communal, anti-national, divisive, undemocratic and enemies of peace and enemies of the Kashmiri Muslims those are who ardent believers in the concept of national unity, those who stand for the Indian sovereignty, those who long for very close ties politico-constitutional ties between the state and the Centre and those who demand empowerment of deprived sections of people in the state.
When did not the Union Government and the State Government accord a very special treatment to Geelani, Mirwaiz and others of their ilk? Both the governments have been treating the Kashmiri separatists and merchants of death and destruction with kid gloves since decades. Why to go into the past history to know the relationship between the authorities and the separatists likes Geelani? Just look at what Geelani, along with Maoist sympathizer and a known India-baiter Arundhati Roy and a well-known Leftist terrorist and Maoist Varvara Rao, did last October in New Delhi and Srinagar and you would realize that there was nothing extraordinary in the kind of the treatment the State Government accorded to Geelani the other day at Srinagar airport.
Is it not a fact that Geelani on October 21 in New Delhi had openly revolted against India, declared that Jammu and Kashmir was not part of India and demanded independence from the "repressive" Indian State? It is a fact. Did the Government of India initiate book him on the charge of sedition? No, it didn't. It virtually said that India was a democratic country and everyone had the right to free speech even if that speech lampoons India. In other words, it let Geelani walk free. Similarly, did the Government of India take any action against Arundhati Roy, who condemned India as "Bhukhe-Nanga Hindustan" and made common cause with Geelani at the same venue? No, she, too, was let off. On the contrary, the authorities in New Delhi and the Sheila Dixit-led Government in Delhi roughed up and beat those who tried their best to prevent Geelani, Roy and similar other separatists and rabidly anti-India elements from airing anti-national views.
Obviously emboldened and encouraged, Geelani, Roy and Rao rushed to Srinagar a couple of days later to reiterate what they had said in New Delhi in a seminar, held under the very nose of the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram-controlled police and paramilitary forces. In Kashmir, they, plus another Leftist terrorist and a staunch supporter of Islamic radicals and sympathizers Gautam Navlakha, unleashed a no-holds-barred anti-India propaganda blitz and demanded freedom not only for Kashmir, but for the entire state conveniently ignoring the fact that an overwhelming majority in the state was vehemently opposed to the idea of the state getting even more autonomy from the country, but to talk of freedom. Did the authorities take any action against anyone of them? Everyone knows that the authorities allowed to walk free as the most distinguished and honourable persons.
And, the latest example is what was done to the BJP leaders and activists on January 24, 25 and 26 at Lakhanpur, Kathua, Jammu and Srinagar. They were arrested, ill-treated, roughed up, put behind the bars and even mercilessly beaten by the ferocious law and order authorities. What was their crime? Their crime was that they had come from different parts of the country to hoist national flag at Srinagar's Lal Chowk. The extent of the authorities' hatred and contempt towards the BJP leaders and activists could be measured from the fact that they arrested and maltreated even the Leaders of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley, respectively. And, do not forget that the law and order authorities unleashed a reign of senseless brutalities with the full backing of the Congress-led UPA Government.
This is the nature of the Indian State. Those who pour venom on India and bleed it are eulogized, protected and accorded a VVIP treatment and those who eulogize India and respect the national flag as a great symbol of national sovereignty are treated the way they were treated on the eve of Republic Day and on the Republic Day itself. What is all this? This is a sin and the sinner will have to pay a very heavy price in the coming days.
