| Protest in JU, students allege unfair election of cultural secretary | | | JAMMU | NOV 9 The students of Jammu University today (JU) staged a protest demonstration in front of Dean Student Welfare (DSW) office against the alleged unfair election of Cultural Secretary. The protest lasted for four hours in which students locked the Dean’s office from outside and wouldn’t allow the officials to move in or out. Later in a meeting, acting VC took the decision to maintain status quo over the yesterday’s cultural secretary election till the return of Prof. Mattoo. The students alleged that the election did not held in a transparent manner, as some of the departmental cultural secretaries were totally unaware of the entire election process. Most of the student organizations including JSSM, ABVP, NSUI and PSU also joined the protest. The students have demanded that the election should be declared as null as void and held again. It was alleged that the proper information regarding election was not made available to most of the departmental cultural secretaries. The students also threatened to disrupt the “Display Your Talent” to press university authorities for conceding their demands. Meanwhile, protesting students pacified only after getting assurance from the acting VC lifted the protest.
