Ist batch of silkworm rearers flagged off | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU Jan 30: Director, Sericulture, M.A. Khan today flagged off the 1st batch of silkworm rearers/farmers from District Jammu, Samba, Reasi and Kathua for study-cum training programme to Bangalore (Karnataka). This study cum trainings programme has been organized by the department under Centrally Sponsored Scheme Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna. Speaking on the occasion, Director, Sericulture J&K told that the purpose of the study cum training programme outside the state is to acquaint the silkworm rearers/farmers about the latest techniques of silkworm rearing and mulberry cultivation being practiced in the southern states especially in Karnataka which is a Seri cultural advanced state in the country. He further added that this type of exposure will aware the silkworm rearers about the importance of mulberry cultivation in their land holdings and the latest technologies by using which they can improve their cocoon crop qualitatively and quantatively and developed a concept of multiple cropping. He advised the silkworm rearers to learn the techniques keenly to adopt the same to earn more by raising multiple cropping and will also educate the farmers of their respective areas so that they are also benefited. This will definitely contribute in upliftment of their economic condition. He further said that in total 100 silkworm rearers in three batches from various districts of Jammu and Kashmir State will be deputed for this study cum training programme. A batch of 30 farmers from Kashmir Valley has already visited Karnataka. The 2nd batch will leave Jammu on February 7 and 3rd batch on February 13. All expenditure of this study cum training programme will be borne by the department.
