NH1-A reopens after being closed for few hours | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Jan 30: One-way traffic was restored this afternoon on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway after remaining closed for some hours since this morning due to heavy snowfall. A senior traffic police official said traffic had been resumed for one way on the highway, the only road linking Kashmir valley with the rest of the country. He said traffic from Srinagar to Jammu had been allowed and added that vehicles from Jammu to Srinagar would be allowed tomorrow if the weather permitted. He said vehicles stranded on the highway had been cleared after the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, cleared the snow at Jawahar Tunnel and Shatan Nallah. About one feet of snow was recorded at Jawahar Tunnel , forcing authorities to suspended the traffic movement. Summer capital Srinagar recorded a low of one degree Celsius. The chilly weather condition gripped the other parts of the state as Jammu had a minimum of 10.4 degrees, Pahalgam minus 1.0, Gulmarg minus 6.0, Leh minus 10.0 and Kargil minus 8.8 degrees Celsius,' the weatherman said. Srinagar recorded 0.8 mm of rainfall while 2.5 cm of snowfall was recorded in Qazigund town of south Kashmir Anantnag district till 6 a.m.
